Manchester Hoteliers Association are looking for heroes in our hotels. We are looking for the Employee of the Year (Front of House) Employee of the Year (Back of House), New Star of the Year, and the Howard Raynor Lifetime Achiever.
The Awards, in association with Hospitality Academy at Fielden, part of The Manchester College, will be presented at the MHA Ball at The Palace Hotel on Friday 21st October 2011.
To select the Award winners, World Class Service and Manchester College have established criteria for each of the four awards. Assessment will be based on the submission of a citation and each hotel can enter one individual for each Award.
This year we are asking for two citations for each nominee. The main citation should be no more than 1,000 words (around two sides of A4) and should demonstrate the characteristics below. It is this citation which will be used to assess the nomination. The second citation should be 100 words in length and will appear on this website.

ALL NOMINATIONS
· Positive attitude and outlook
· Good working relationships with their peers
· Self awareness in appearance and language
· Communications skills with customers/colleagues
· Motivation (dedication to their skills, company and team)

New Star of the Year Award 2011
(Nominee must not have worked in the sector for more than 18 months as of the 31st August 2010)

Curiosity about the industry
Employee of the Year – Front of House Award 2011
(Can be from any part of the company outside senior management)
All nomination criteria plus:

• Evidence of commitment to self development

• Business Awareness
• Good recovery skills if things go wrong
• Decisive when required
Employee of the Year – Back of House Award 2011
(Can be from any part of the company outside senior management)

• Decisive when required
Howard Raynor - Lifetime Achiever Award 2011
(Must have worked in the Manchester hotel/hospitality sector for more than 10 years)
All the nomination criteria plus:
• Coach and mentoring skills for fellow team members
• Attention to detail
• Ability to see customer perspective
• Business Awareness
• Good recovery skills if things go wrong
• Decisive when required
• Adds significant value to organisation through their experience
• Demonstrable expertise – highly skilled in their field – EXAMPLE REQUIRED
Citations
· Must be accompanied by the relevant cover sheet provided
· Must be accompanied by a digital photograph of the nominee within the workplace
· Must be signed by General Manager of the property
· No more than 1,000 words
· Please give examples of criteria being met
· Please provide a 100 word version of the citation.
· This will appear on the World Class Service and MHA websites along with the image of the nominee.
Must be submitted to Louise at World Class Service no later than August 31st 2011
Notes:
Each nominee will receive a letter recognising their achievement.
Each nominee will have their photograph and 100 word citation appear on the World Class Service and MHA websites.
Three nominees for each of the four categories will be shortlisted.
• Each of the shortlisted nominees will be invited along to an interview with Andrew Glester (Managing Director World Class Service) and speciality Hospitality tutors from The Manchester College.
• Each of the short listed nominees will be expected to attend the MHA Ball on the 21st October.
• Each of the winners will receive an MHA Award plate made by Villeroy & Boch, World Class Service Gold Pin, and prize.
• Each of the runners up will receive a framed certificate to recognise their achievement.
• Following the event – the details of the winners will be circulated to all HR managers within the MHA, and photographs of the winners will be posted on the MHA website.
• A press release regarding the awards and their winners will be circulated to Caterer & Hotelkeeper, Manchester Evening News, Hospitality Action, Visit Manchester and Crain’s.
• Winners may be asked to act as ambassadors for Manchester hotels over the 12 months following the awards ceremony on the 21st October 2011.
