WCS loves MCR
Last week was one to forget but the reaction of many people to the looting is something to celebrate. Our home town, the wonderful Manchester, is going about things in the right way as usual.
We're supporting the I love MCR campaign because we are proud of this city and its people. As a natural part of the myriad of activities we get up to, we find out about a huge amount of wonderful things happening across this great city of ours and share this information, for free, through the Manchester10. This week, as with every other week, there is plenty to do as you can see below:
Running through the streets and grabbing great things for free is all the rage this week in Manchester. Street Athletics is looking for the fastest young person in Manchester and there are free theatre shows and exhibitions galore.
The Manchester10 iPhone app gives you the top ten things to do in Manchester each week direct to your phone for free.
1. A weekend of free events, including the astounding theatre performed on a highwire in Castlefield, Platform4 and "As the World Tipped"
2. Prove how fast you are. No need to book, just turn up to any one of the locations on the day to prove that you are the fastest young person in Manchester with Street Athletics
3. Film something...anything and submit it to www.aportraitofengland.com which is a brand new project by, about, for and with the people of England...and that means you and your friends
4. Head down to Spinningfields. They show outdoor films on Thursdays (Ghostbusters this week) and they have a great line up of family films on Saturday afternoons
5. The Manchester Mini-Explorer bags are available now from hotels, museums and tourist information centres. For something a little bit special, combine a weekend of family fun with a stay at the 5 star Lowry hotel with their Creative Tourist package. You can also download the Family Friendly City Guide for Manchester's Summer from Creative Tourist
6. Andy Warhol and the Diva is a new exhibition at the Lowry
7. It's been a long ride and it all ends here. Harry Potter's final adventure at the IMAX in 3D
8. Take the family down to MOSI and get hands on with all sorts of activities and try out the 4D cinema
9. The International Festival is over but 1395 Days Without Red at the Whitworth continues until September before it heads to London
10. On Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12-1pm, zoologists take visitors to Manchester Museum on a tour of the living animals in the Vivarium
Note: Like most Mancunians, we were saddened and disgusted by the actions of the few who came to wreck our city centre last week but deeply proud of the reaction of the rest of the city as we all bounced back to our usual friendly, bustling and busy ways. We love Manchester. Show that you do too on August 26th
